What a Move to Wallingford Has to Offer

Wallingford is a town of about 45,000 residents in New Haven County, Connecticut, on the Quinnipiac River. It was incorporated in 1670 and became a place where pewter and silver wares were manufactured. The International Silver Company, R. Wallace & Company and H.L. Judd Manufacturing Company were just several of the firms that set up large plants in Wallingford. The town's railroad station, built in 1871 with a distinctive mansard roof, stone quoins and ornamental brackets, still stands today and serves Amtrak and commuter rail passengers. In recent years, the town has begun a grassroots effort to maintain some of the historic buildings in its downtown area.

From metal goods manufacturing, the local economy diversified, and Wallingford is nowhome to health care, service, high-tech and pharmaceutical companies, including the town's largest employer, Bristol-Myers Squibb.

The Choate Rosemary Hall private school in Wallingford is a merger of two smaller elite private schools, Choate and Rosemary Hall. The school is part of the Ten Schools Admissions Organization, which also includes the Exeter, Andover, Taft, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, St. Paul's, Lawrenceville, Loomis Chaffee and Hill private schools.

Famous Choate alumni include Jon Dos Passos, Robert Fitzgerald, John F. Kennedy, Avery Dulles, James Whitmore, Edward Albee, Michael Douglas, Jamie Lee Curtis and Paul Giamatti. Famous Rosemary Hall alumni include Ali McGraw and Glenn Close. The campus of the school includes two buildings designed by architect I.M. Pei, and others designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Pelli Clarke and Lewis Augustus Coffin.

Wallingford has been the setting or shooting location of several notable films, including “College Road Trip,” “Riding in Cars with Boys,” “The Melancholy Fantastic,” “Without Mercy,” and “The Midnight Game.”
