North American Van Lines: The Best of Augusta Moving Companies

Located along the Savannah River in east central Georgia is Augusta, a city rich with classic Southern heritage. The city was founded as a trading post during the British colonial period, and today showcases fascinating historic sites, Antebellum mansions and excellent dining. This third-largest city in the state is also internationally renowned for hosting The Masters Golf Tournament each spring.

As of 2012 U.S. Census, Augusta had a population of about 198,000. The majority of residents are employed in construction and health care.

Like other Georgian locales, Atlanta’s weather is typical of the South. The summers are hot and humid, with temperatures reaching the 90s in July, while winters are mild and tend to hover around the 50s.

Activities and attractions in Augusta

As a big city, Augusta offers a full spectrum of exciting activities and attractions. Celebrate African American heritage at Augusta Museum of History, or get your picture taken on Broad Street with the statue of James Brown, who grew up shining shoes in Augusta. Residents enjoy visiting the Confederate Powderworks Chimney, which was used to produce gunpowder during the Civil War. It is Augusta’s only surviving structure built by the Southern troops. In Augusta’s Downtown Historic District, you can explore the architecture from the pre-Civil War area.

During the spring, residents get a special treat by watching The Masters, one of the most prestigious tournaments in golf. The grounds of Augusta National are pristine, ranked No. 3 of the “Top 100 best golf courses”  in the world by Golf Magazine. The city also offers disc golf, also known as frisbee golf, facilities.

Augusta is also home to what’s popularly billed as the world’s richest drag boat race. In July, high speed boats will zoom across the Savannah River.
