What a Move to Queensbury Has to Offer

The county seat of Warren County, Queensbury, New York, is a town of roughly 28,000 residents located on the shore of picturesque Lake George and the Hudson River not far from the base of the Adirondack Mountains. The town is named after Queen Charlotte, the royal consort of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland.

The area was first settled by Quakers, but they moved away during the Revolutionary War and returned when the conflict was over. Since that time, the borders of the town have both expanded and contracted as neighboring communities were annexed or seceded. The most recent secession was in 2003, when neighboring Glens Falls annexed land along Veterans Road.

Lake George is the largest body of water connected to the town, and it has drawn many tourists and visitors, including members of the van Rensselaer, Vanderbilt, Whitney, Roosevelt and Rockefeller families, to its shores over the years. The lake is roughly 32 miles long and 3 miles wide and contains 395 islands. Besides Lake George, Glen Lake and Lake Sunnyside are two other major bodies of water in Queensbury.

The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom, a Six Flags amusement park, is located in the town along with West Mountain, a downhill skiing area. Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport is the region's only aviation facility and is also the site of the annual Adirondack Balloon Festival.

Hamlets Jenkinsville, East Lake George, French Mountain, Brayton, Harrisena, Kattskill Bay, West Mountain, Oneida Corners, Top O' the World, Paradise Beach and West Glens Falls all lie within Queensbury. In addition to these outdoor attractions, two historic Federal-style homes—the Sanford and Asa Stower Houses—are located in town and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. SUNY Adirondack community college also calls Queensbury home.
