Jerseyville is a city in and the county seat of Jersey County, Illinois, with roughly 8,500 residents. It was established in 1827 by James Faulkner, a settler from Pennsylvania who built a structure known as "The Little Red House," which served as a tavern, stagecoach station, school and bank for the area. Two New Jersey residents, John Lott and Edward Daly, surveyed the region, and they marked the beginning of an influx of businessmen and merchants from their home state.
